Adaptation strategies for farmers and businesses

AgriAdapt at the Biofach

Late frosts, heavy precipitation and prolonged periods of rain, heat and drought lead to considerable losses in agricultural yields and quality, some of which threaten the existence of the sector. Extensive extreme weather events can affect the supply security and quality of entire (organic) food sectors. Individual farm and systemic adaptation measures and strategies are essential.

The vulnerability analysis, which was developed within the framework of the EU-LIFE project AgriAdapt, is a newly developed instrument that can be used to identify opportunities and risks at individual farm level and to recommend adaptation measures.

Despite adaptations, the quality of products might change. Representatives from processing, marketing and trade have to deal with this.

What challenges does climate change pose for farmers in the arable, livestock, fruit and wine growing sectors?

How does the vulnerability analysis help farmers adapt to climate change?

What challenges does climate change already pose for the processing and marketing level?

What adaptations can the sector respond with?

We will present and discuss the vulnerability analysis at the Biofach:

Sascha Damaschun, Managing Director of Bodan – Großhandel für Naturkost GmbH, Jörg Große-Lochtmann, Managing Director of the market company of Naturland Bauern AG and Hubertus Doms, Managing Director of HIPP-Werk Georg Hipp OHG.
